What Van Learns:
What this means:
Thiiiiiis is the first memory Van got back that hints at his role in Hod's downfall. It doesn't provide much context as to what, exactly, happened but it...It provides enough that he'll be very uneasy.
He also earned this back after Tear had been booked, and after darkness'd Asuka taunted him about his mother. And it's from the game where he and Guy had a bit of a fight...So, unless something happens between now and whenever he takes this memory, he's going to be pretty fucking depressed. (Even if something happened, this memory is PRETTY FUCKING DEPRESSING.)
...I also have been deliberately avoiding trying to figure out Van's exact thoughts when things happen. He's been receiving the memories in an 'outside looking in' fashion for the most part, with only feelings to give him an idea of what was going on in his head. Given his development and what I hope will happen for him, I might leave off his thoughts here, that it wasn't his fault. While he's in the right here, Van's been wrestling a lot with the idea of responsibility in Aather. In canon, everything was the fault of the Score and all of his actions were colored by the fact that the Score was the reason everyone must die -- there was only so much he could to defy the Score, after all. Taking away that belief in the Score's absolute nature has allowed Van to develop in ways he never could outside of an amnesia setting, and I'm not certain he's ready for "It wasn't my fault" just yet.
...Van's development in Aather has been ironic in many ways.
Van will also likely attempt a quest for his mother's pendant.

In a small corner of the Qliphoth, a woman's death was drawing near.
"Jessie... Thank you for everything until now. I am... indebted to you."
"Please don't talk like that, Milia..."
Jessie Talbath held the hands of Falmiliarica Satys Fende, who lay prone on a bed, with tears in her eyes. The pregnant woman had done her best since the fall of Hod. Though she had safely given birth to her daughter, she had been pushed to her limits, and from her expression, it was clear she did not have much longer.
"Vandesdelca..."
"Yes, Mother."
Her eleven year old son approached the bed.
"One day... when you think the time is right, please... give this to Mystearica..."
Milia pointed with shaking fingers at the sparkling pendant around her neck.
"I will."
"It's a good thing that... we decided on a name for her..."
Seeing Milia's weak smile, Van clenched his teeth.
"Mother, I... about Father..."
"Vandesdelca," Milia interrupted her son, "Your father fought bravely alongside the House of Gardios. I'm sure he is no longer alive. But you... Live thinking only of the things to come, and... please, don't blame yourself."
"Mother..."
"Promise me that you'll protect Mystearica. That the two of you will... be happy..."
Van watched fixedly as the color in her beautiful face gradually faded away.
"Vandesdelca... your power..."
Milia's words stopped midway.
Jessie buried her face in her hands, then glanced at Van once with red eyes.
Mother... I promise to protect my younger sister. But I do not blame myself at all. I am not the one at fault. You knew this yourself, didn't you, Mother...?
At that moment, a baby's cry could be heard from the next room. Mystearica was crying.
This memory has the crushing weight of loss, sorrow and dread.
