𝄞 Memory 37: Significant Negative
I'm several memories behind on write-ups, but I'm starting with this one because this memory is pretty damn important.
Fall of Hod
Earned: Day 200 night from Three's Soulbond game
Shareable: Yes; 5/5 uses.
Taken: No
Form: ...A friendship bracelet. :)
The Memory Itself

The memory starts with Vandesdelca regaining consciousness under a collapsed building, too disoriented to immediately understand what's going on around him. People around him scream, fleeing as the land itself began to break. Vandesdelca stands there in shock for a moment, then awareness and fear begin to set in and he starts searching for his mother.
The land is starting to crack, destroying the roads leading out towards the port and essentially trapping everyone. Somehow amidst the chaos he finds his mother, or she finds him. His father is still missing, likely dead, but neither of them have much time to worry or mourn. They focus on taking shelter and keeping themselves alive while the land continues to slowly yet steadily sink.
It takes only a few days before the entire land gives way and everything begins to fall for miles. Vandesdelca clings to his mother and sings the fonic hymn for protection, slowing their fall and protecting them from further debris.

They land more or less safely on the remains of Hod, surrounded by acrid miasma and no salvation in sight. With his mother injured and no idea what else to do, he covers her and his unborn sister as much as he can...Fortunately, it isn't too long before help comes and he and his mother are taken to Yulia City, most likely as the only found survivors. For now, they're safe.
It takes a month before Hod sinks entirely into the miasma.
What this means
Van actually remembers his trauma now! Or at least the parts of it I could glean from flashbacks and one-liners from the game script. Immediately, his reaction will likely be to fall into depression for a while. He never had a chance to properly mourn Hod before, as his mother's death left him with a younger sister to care for and Auldrant has made it quite clear that therapy was not a thing that existed. He never learned how to cope with what happened to him and once he was given a reason -- given something to blame -- he took that and hated it so much there that he was eventually consumed by the emotion.
However, I think in the longterm, Aather will offer him the chance to cope that he never really had in canon. He has a teammate that suffered from losing his home and there are plenty others around him who have dealt with significant loss and continued to move on. He has a support structure that he never had before so there is a chance for actual healing now.
...That said, it's still very easy for him to fall back into hatred. The Cry Wolf game managed to succeed in making him hate humanity and it's only been very recently that he felt he still had people he could genuinely rely on who wouldn't just throw him under once it seems like he's a 'threat'. (Needless to say, Van has trust issues.) If anyone tries to tell him he should 'move on' before he's ready, then there will be no forgiveness for that person no matter how pure their intentions may be.
But his team is Sapphire and has some of the few people who could actually genuinely help him, so I think things will turn out for the better here.
