♯ Skill 01: Special
Healing: First Aid
Earned: Day 120 from Snow's Skill-Swap game.
Taken: ...Day 120, morning.
Form: Little puppy-shaped ice cube. In Sapphire blue, of course.
...Gosh. I waffled about adding this to my registry SO MUCH cause I worried it would have been a bit of a leap to say Van knew healing when he...never heals in canon, not even once. But the game does make it pretty clear that being a seventh fonist is required to heal and the fact that Van is a seventh fonist was a pretty big deal when he kept Lorelei inside of him, so he's canonically capable of it, in that way that a cat is theoretically capable of landing on its feet. If you have cats though, then you probably have noticed that they don't live up to that potential very well. Personally, my headcanon has been that Van is capable of healing but it's one of the things he really genuinely struggles with and had possibly given up on it at some point. (It doesn't help that looming inevitable death is such a constant on his mind...not exactly a mindset best suited for the art in helping people to not die.)
...But I'll be honest and say that I wanted to try playing Van trying the healer role and this is one of the very RP scenarios where he wouldn't just brush it off as a waste of time. I already started him on that path unintentionally by picking a first memory that defined his very idea of self in Aather where he praises Tear's healing, and he's been in a situation where he was dead weight and watched one of Aather's few healers perform triage while he couldn't offer anything but kind words and an empty promise. Then there's the constant talk and pressure and need to change, well...I don't think any other RP will give me chances like this to work with so I'm taking it and seeing how far it gets me.
In short: Van heals now cause I wanted him to for ~reasons~. SO THERE.
the actual details on the stupid arte:
First Aid heals "a small amount of HP". According to the Aselia wiki on Tear's artes, that "small amount of HP" is about equal to 25% of max HP. Basically 1/4 of your health, which is a pretty sizable chunk if you can spam it fast enough. '-'; Adjusting for powercap, that percentage would be lower. Fitting in with my headcanon that Van is capable of healing but not especially talented in it, that'll percentage would be even lower. Lets just say 10% cause I already started using numbers in an RP where numbers don't really apply anyways and 10 is a nice number. I like 10.
Practically speaking, this works out to mean that he's capable of healing minor scrapes and cuts, possibly able to patch up some slightly deeper wounds with a spam technique but that would a) drain resources and b) result in an OW, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS POWERCAP THING AND WHY DO WE HAVE IT? reaction. He can heal now but it's very inefficient healing and won't do a whole lot of good in a life or death situation. (Though I guess 'I've slowed the bleeding so you're gushing blood slightly slower than you were before' ...helps. A bit...)
A First Aid from Van is about the equivalent of a fancy Hello Kitty band-aid, really. Better than most band-aids, yes, but not even Hello Kitty can save you from gaping heart wounds or a particularly nasty papercut.
And oh yes: requires seventh fonons to actually use. So note to self: get thee a quest for concentrated seventh fonons. Then figure out how TP usage translates and blah blah blah stuff to be hashed out later.
